As a leader, who is your confidant?

I believe we perform better when we connect and work with others rather than trying to go solo.

It is the reason I developed ‘Growing leaders through Teamship’. It is also the basis of the Leaders Learning Circle I host.

As humans, we are better together.

I am fascinated by what happens when two or more people with the same intentions interact. Something magical occurs.

The best word I have found to descibe it is “synergy”.

One dictionary meaning is “the interaction of elements when combined produce a total effect greater than the sum of the individual elements.”

The word was first recorded in 1650-60 from the Greek synergia; “working together”.

Yet ironically, leaders in modern organisations find themselves isolated. “It’s lonely at the top,” is commonly quoted.

I have previously written how I believe leadership need not be lonely.

Interestingly, I stumbled across a 2021 study by Wei Jee Ong from the National University of Singapore, who found that for women, occupying a leader role was associated with greater loneliness.

Further, and I quote, “Results also show that this was because women subjectively experienced a reduced sense of authenticity when they assumed leader roles.”

Whoa! I can’t ignore that.

We want (need) women who embrace leadership with the confidence and courage to be authentic.
