One idea: Showing gratitude
I have long thought that Australia is adopting the wrong traditions of the United States. Halloween and Black Friday Sales are becoming a thing. Yet Thanksgiving is overlooked. While we don’t have a public holiday or travel to spend time with family, we can still be thankful for our blessings.
As a leader, showing gratitude towards team members is a win-win. There are huge benefits for the individual expressing gratitude as well as the person on the receiving end.
One quote
“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” – William Arthur Ward
One question
Who and what are you grateful for at work?
One example Some research
- Research indicates that leaders who express appreciation tend to be more satisfied at work, experience less burnout, and are perceived as more influential and respected.
- Grateful leaders report lower stress levels, improved sleep quality, and greater overall happiness, which in turn positively impacts their teams.
- A Glassdoor survey found that 81% of employees reported they would exert more effort for a grateful boss, highlighting the direct link between gratitude and employee engagement.
One small action
Handwrite a note to someone to show your gratitude. Interestingly, a handwritten note has more impact than an email in today’s modern workplace.
