What does Peach Fuzz have to do with leadership?

News Flash. Peach fuzz is Pantone’s colour of the year for 2024

The Pantone Colour Institute, founded in 1985 is viewed as the global authority on colour. Each year, since 1999 a team of colour experts search out emerging colour influences worldwide.

As explained on their website, “Anything and everything taking place in our culture during the year can influence our Pantone Color of the Year selections, with each source carrying a different weight from year to year depending on what’s taking place in our culture at that time.”

“What’s that got to do with leadership?”, you may ask.

The colour choice speaks to the vibe at this time not limited to a region or one sector of design. It expresses a mood and an attitude. With this in mind, I was intrigued to read that Peach Fuzz is a heartfelt peach hue bringing a feeling of kindness and tenderness, communicating a message of caring and sharing, community and collaboration.

For me, this parallels with what is required of leaders at this time – compassion, connection and collaboration.

And I’m not alone. Forbes leadership trends for 2024 lists

  • diagnose what employees are feeling and
  • cultivate adaptability and resilience.

While DDI World has named 2024 “The Year of Trust”.

Kindness, empathy and compassion create greater human connection making our personal and professional lives more meaningful.
