I am gobsmacked!
We have a leadership crisis.
I have long been aware of the research and lived experience of school principals in Australia. Recent conversations with colleagues have continued to give me cause for concern. I had planned to write something about the state of affairs.
Then curiosity got the better of me.
I just did a couple of quick Google searches.
It seems education is not the only profession in a world of hurt.
Health,
Defence,
Child Safety,
Child Care and
Police.
All gave me resounding hits on reports, stats and strategies trying to address the leadership retention issue in each sector.
Google searching is hardly reliable research, but some common patterns quickly emerged in my skim reading.
- Staff shortages in their workforce.
- Mental health impacts.
- Workload
- Public perception
I’d love to open up a conversation. What is required to make leadership sustainable?
